I was pleased to welcome winemaker Ginny Povall on a recent visit to Spiritus. You may recall her pinot noir and chenin blanc on our shelves in the past with their floral labels depicting the collage art of Mary Delany. Her deft winemaking skills (amazingly self-taught!) were clearly and consistently evident across the lineup we tasted and a pure pleasure to behold. Her red blend is inspired by Bordeaux using cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and petit verdot. The superb 2017 vintage yielded a full-bodied red with good depth and a velvet palate of black plum, cherry, red pepper and leafy tobacco, all kept in balance by Ginny’s artistic hand. This will pair magnificently with grilled lamb chops or a well-seasoned sirloin strip. (Gary)
