Chile's Casablanca Valley is about 60 miles west of the capital Santiago, which in this narrow strip of a country puts the valley about 10 miles from the cool Pacific Ocean. Bathed by the cool Pacific breezes and shrouded frequently in beneficial mists, the area is well-suited for cool-climate loving grapes including sauvignon blanc and pinot noir. Recognizing the potential, Veramonte was the first to heavily invest in the district back in the 1990's. This organic sauvignon blanc leads with fresh, juicy notes of pineapple, mandarin and lime before its supple texture mitigates the fruitiness and its fine acidity glides your palate to the lip-smacking finish. Enjoy this fun white on its own, with a sea bass filet or fish tacos with cilantro and ginger. (Gary)
